SERVICE

At age 13, in the Jewish religion, Joshua has reached spiritual maturity and his Bar Mitzvah signifies his transition from a one dimensional self centered state of mind to one that enables him to experience the depth and complexity of life.

The Kabbalah teaches that upon Bar Mitzvah, Joshua will begin to hear the voice of his soul allowing him to seek meaning, fulfillment, connection and inspiration.

Josh's Bar Mitzvah service will be held at Congregation Mickve Israel
The service is on Saturday morning at 11:00 am.

MITZVAH PROJECT

Josh loves basketball, so he is going to organize a game or event to raise money for https://www.saveachildsheart.com which he has already participated in through a basketball event in Atlanta. His cousin Sally Mundell also started https://www.thepackagedgood.org which he’s been involved with. Lastly, he feeds the homeless at least once/month at Forsyth Park with a group called People Helping People.

JOSH'S FRIENDS

Welcome to Josh's Bar Mitzvah website! We're really happy you'll be sharing his special day with us. A lot of you have probably never been to a Bar Mitzvah, so you probably have tons of questions. There's more information throughout the website, but here's what you need to know in a nutshell!

Q. What is a Bar Mitzvah and what exactly will I be doing there?
A. In the Jewish religion up until the age of 13, a child’s parents hold the responsibility for the child’s actions. Now that he is 13, Joshua will now be held accountable for his own actions to include those involving his family, his friends and the Jewish community here in Savannah.

So what happens at a Bar Mitzvah?

Josh has been learning to read Hebrew since Kindergarten. Over the past year, Josh has refined his skills and studied countless hours in preparation for this day. On Saturday morning, Josh will lead the service, read from the Torah, and give a speech. Parts of the service will be in Hebrew and a large part in English as well. Josh is looking forward to explaining the contents of this tradition that is thousands of years old.

Q. What should I wear to the celebration on Saturday?
The attire for Josh's Bar Mitzvah celebration on Saturday evening is party casual or wear your favorite team jersey, which is dressier than your everyday casual look, but you don't need a cocktail dress or suit either.

The party is one step above jeans. Boys can wear pants or khakis with a button down, but tie or jacket aren't necessary. Girls can wear cute dresses or a dressy pants look, but without all the frills. Or just wear your favorite team jersey!

Q. What will the party be like?
A. Lots of food, games, music, dancing...and a whole bunch of other fun stuff!
We have a DJ who will be entertaining everyone, especially all of you. After
all of Josh's hard work, this is the time to relax and celebrate!
