MITZVAH PROJECT

Dear Family and Friends,

To increase our senior and homebound recipient's Meals On Wheels access to fresh produce, a program was developed, free of charge, called POW! (Produce On Wheels.) Bags typically include some of the following: a head of lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, oranges, bananas, cucumbers, salad dressing, along with an educational handout that has information on the items, easy recipes and a comments section.  A couple weekends in September, I had the opportunity to volunteer for this program with my Sister, Jaclyn and my Mother, Lauren. We went to several homes to help these people in need have healthy nutritious meals. I had a great sense of responsibility knowing that for most of the recipients, we were the only form of human contact they would receive that day. I enjoyed the conversation when delivering the meals and had a sense of pride knowing I had contributed to make their lives better.

Hurricane Dorian left a lot of people without their "basic" needs that God initially provided for us. I have decided to take a portion of my mitzvah money and donate it to a charity that will supply those basic needs to the now, "homeless" people in the Bahamas!

Please consider either sending me a nominal donation or send a donation to the charity of your choice to the Bahamas if you have not done so already.

Of course if this hurricane did not take place, I probably would have asked that you donate to the Meals On Wheels of Tampa or your local Meals on Wheels.

Thanks so much for your time and I look forward to celebrating with you soon!!

Sincerely,

JAKE'S FRIENDS

Welcome to Jake's Bar Mitzvah website! We're really happy you'll be sharing Jake's special day with us. A lot of you have probably never been to a Bar Mitzvah, so you probably have tons of questions. There's more information throughout the website, but here's what you need to know in a nutshell!

Q. What is a Bat Mitzvah and what exactly will I be doing there?
A. At 13, a young Jewish man becomes obligated to observe the commandments of Judaism. "Bar Mitzvah" literally means "son of the commandments." The celebration of a Bar Mitzvah signifies that the young man is beginning and will continue to function as an active and responsible Jew in the synagogue and in the wider Jewish community.

So what does that mean exactly?

Jake has been learning to read Hebrew since kindergarten and he's gotten really good at it. He's been studying specifically for his Bar Mitzvah over the past year. Jake will read a lot of Hebrew at the service, but there will also be a good amount of English. He will lead the service and there will be a lot of interesting traditions for you to see. Please arrive at the synagogue by 10:30 a.m. and expect the service to last for approximiately an hour and half.

Q. What should I wear?
A. For the service on Saturday morning and the party immediately following the service, girls should wear a dress or skirt with a top. For the service, shoulders should be covered if the dress or top is sleeveless. Boys can feel comfortable wearing either a dress shirt with slacks or a jacket with any type of shirt.

Q. What will the party be like?
A. Lots of food, games, music, dancing...and a whole bunch of other fun stuff! We have a dj who will be entertaining everyone. After all of Jake's hard work, this is the time to relax and celebrate!

If you or your parents have any other questions, please email us at lnast513@gmail.com. We'll see you October 26th!
